LOCATION / PUBLIC TRANSPORT

We are located at the city end of King Street, between Queen and Georgina Streets. Newtown train station is about a 10 minute walk away along shop-lined King St. There are bus stops outside the venue, and taxi's pass along King St  frequently. Central station is about a 5-10 minute drive away.

ACCESSIBILITY

Yes we do have an accessible entrance, which is toward the rear of the venue, accessed via the lane on King St next to the front door. Staff will need to assist with entrance so please contact us prior to your arrival to ensure we are ready to open the door for you - team@thevanguard.com.au, Our accessible bathroom is located on the main floor next to the stairs.  

PARKING

King St has a clearway between 3pm - 7pm Monday to Friday, with ticketed street parking outside of those hours. Other street parking options close by are Queen, Forbes and Wilson Streets. We do not have a dedicated parking lot for the venue.

CAN I BUY TICKETS ON THE DOOR?

For most shows, GA tickets are available to purchase at the door, however these are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed. The best way to secure a ticket is to purchase online through this website or moshtix.

If you would like to know if there are still tickets available on the evening of an event, please email team@thevanguard.com.au. We will endeavour to get back to you as quickly as possible.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A DINNER AND SHOW TICKET?

Dinner and Show tickets are inclusive of a one or two course meal (check the individual event details to clarify), allocated seating, and a dedicated waitstaff to provide table service throughout the evening.

 

SET TIMES

With all of the variables associated with live performances set times can never be exact. For GA shows with a 7pm door time, music will traditionally kick off between 7.30pm - 8.30pm. For Dinner & Show sittings, there is traditionally 1.5 hours for dinner service before the entertainment begins, as to not interrupt the show.

We have a delicious range of cocktails, beers and wines to go with a full menu offering from our Chef, and the room is beautifully renovated so come and spend some time socialising here with us before and after the bands. 

The time indicated on your ticket is not the performance start time, but the ‘door open’ time.

 

CONFUSION ABOUT BOOKING A TABLE

If I book a 'table for 2' does that mean I have 2 tickets and 2 meals? Yes it does, but if you still aren't sure please call Moshtix on 1300 GET TIX (438 849). 

 

RESERVATION TIMES

For Dinner and Show ticket holders, please arrive at the door open time indicated on your ticket, dinner service usually runs for 1.5 hours from doors. This way we’ll be able to get the food orders in promptly and have everyone’s meal wrapped up before the show begins.

 

ADDING DINERS TO AN EXISTING BOOKING

If you have made a booking and have extras wanting to join you, just purchase extra tickets and we will join them onto your table, just send us an email with the booking details. 

 

BYO

We do not allow any food or beverages of any kind to be brought into the venue.

Food and Beverage sales are how we pay the rent, so if you enjoy having a venue like ours available please support us by spending your $$ here. While those with pokies are able to take a loss on food and beverage sales to get you in the door, we need your food and bev patronage to sustain the enormous overheads associated with a Sydney business.

Ticket sales are paid in full to the bands - we take no portion. Keep live music in your city by supporting the venues who support live music...

DO YOU ACCEPT COMPANION CARDS?

Absolutely. Simply present your companion card to the door host for your companion to receive free entry.

We strongly support and encourage the inclusion of everybody, after all music is made to be enjoyed by all. As such, we are supporters of a number of disability groups and organisations that run group outings to live music gigs - and in most cases are able to offer a group discount on tickets for such groups. ALL AGES

In most cases, unless explicitly stated, The Vanguard Newtown is a strictly 18+ venue, with no one under 18 years permitted to enter - even with parents booked for dining. Valid i.d will be required on entry - Australian Proof of Age, Australian Drivers License or Passport only. For shows that are all ages, the bar will be fully de-licenced and no alcohol will be sold or permitted in the venue.

 

TICKETED SHOWS

General admission tickets do not guarantee seating so if being seated for the performance is important please book for Dinner and Show. Dining tickets will include 1 or 2 courses and include a reserved table, allocated in order of booking. (So buy tix early for the tables closest to the stage). We will do our best to accommodate requests, but it's an intimate space so there isn't really a bad spot... Once the main floor allocations for dinner are exhausted we do have the options for dining in the bar area. If you arrive early - when the doors open - you will be able to grab a good spot and order from our menus from the bar.

For shows sold as General Admission Only there will be limited seating available. Tables on these nights are not able to be reserved so arrive early to grab a good spot. Full menus will be available to have a bite and a drink while you wait for the music to start.

 

DIETARY MENU OPTIONS

We can adjust a lot of our menu options to accommodate most allergies and dietary requirements, including vegan, celiac, dairy free, nut free. Please let our staff know when ordering. For more extensive needs please email team@thevanguard.com.au to check if we can work it out for you.

ENTRY TO THE VENUE / IS THERE A DRESS CODE

While we don't have a strict dress code we do require you to be clean, fully dressed, wearing shoes and sober. We do not guarantee your entry if you are intoxicated, aggressive, partially dressed. We also have an expectation of courteous behaviour while you are in the venue - you must treat the staff and those around you with respect or you will be asked to leave.

If you want our live music culture to survive, please support all venues who support live music by spending your entertainment dollars in-house. Without poker machine revenue yes, the pricing may not be as competitive, but the only way to guarantee the longevity of businesses like ours is to ensure we can all pay the rent...
